Digital Media Arts: Videography
What We Do
The CVCC Videography program exposes students to projects each week, providing the opportunity to write, produce, direct, and edit narratives ranging from short films and commercials to documentaries and music videos. The program is an intensive introduction to visual storytelling, digital filmmaking, film theory, and film production. Students will learn story structure and screenplay formatting, explore camera and lighting technology, cultivate teamwork, and master video editing software.The program is fast-paced, team-oriented, and full of opportunities for learning new skills and self-directed development. Each student writes and directs short films to master cinematography, directing, editing, producing, and script development.
Some of the course objectives are:- Employ film vocabulary, particularly as it relates to cinematography and narrative film editing.
- Develop story ideas and draft scripts for short narratives and documentary films, focusing on finding one’s unique narrative voice.
- Demonstrate technical applications of filmmaking, including camera work, lighting, sound recording, and editing, and master production and post-production software.
- Analyze films from a historical, cultural, and ethical perspective, celebrating the diversity of ideas and creativity, and exploring how these films have impacted social change by giving a voice to the voiceless.
