Emergency Services

What We Do

Emergency Services I:

Would you know what to do in an emergency? Our program prepares you to handle many types of emergencies and become fully prepared to enter the Emergency Services workforce as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or enter post-secondary education and training. The program prepares you to earn your National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) certification, recognized across the country.  The program is part of the Vermont State University’s Fast Forward program, so you will earn 6 college credit hours.  Working as an EMT is rewarding and a great starting place for anyone interested in a medical career.

Emergency Services II:

This second-year option introduces the theory and application of concepts related to the Paramedic level of the EMS profession. This is the only second year program in Vermont and the only one in the United States that high school seniors are able to take paramedic level EMS education. The focus is to provide basic and advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. Skills include extending the knowledge of the EMT to a more complex breadth and depth, intravenous access and fluid therapy, medication administration, blind insertion airway devices, and the advanced assessment and management of various medical illnesses and traumatic injuries and follows the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA’s) Emergency Medical Services Education Standards. The program is done as a collaboration with Vermont State University and earns students 33 credits towards an associate’s degree. Once the students complete the full course they are eligible to take the National Registry of EMTs Paramedic certification exam.
